Description

The Thumper LCD-20 is designed to be used an in line DC battery Charger, suitable for Lithium LiFePO4 batteries only.

(Note: Thumper offer a model designed to suit AGM/GEL type batteries - see link HERE)

Rated to 20 Amps, the LCD-20 offers a cost effective alternative for DC charging for Lithium batteries. Allowing for an input voltage as low as 8 Volts and producing a filtered output of 14.5 Volts, this is the perfect choice for low voltage vehicles.

The LCD-20 is designed to suit 24 Volt vehicles, with an input voltage between 8-36Volts. Simply use the LCD-20 in your 24Volt vehicle and it will again offer a filtered power output for charging lithium batteries at 14.5 Volts.

Unlike traditional DC chargers on the market, the Thumper LCD-20 is not fitted with an isolator component, meaning it MUST be used in conjunction with an existing dual battery isolator, or our Thumper TUR-L wiring loom.

Thumper recommend that the isolator used with the LCD-20 is best suited as an ignition activated relay (rather than a traditional voltage sensitive relay, VSR). The reasoning behind this recommendation is that a VSR isolator would usually require a minimum input voltage of 13.5volts from the alternator in order to engage charging. If fitted to a newer model vehicle, then the voltage may be <13.5volts and consequently, a VSR may not engage to allow the LCD-20 to charge.

In contrast to a VSR, an ignition activated isolator will engage immediately with the vehicle's ignition. This isolator will therefore act as the perfect option to allow the LCD-20 to start charging immediately with the vehicle's ignition, and will cease to charge immediately when the vehicle's ignition is switched off.

How to use:

The LCD-20 is fitted with easy 'quick connect' Anderson connectors

  • Grey Anderson connector: Input connection from the vehicle's alternator
  • Black Anderson connector: Output to secondary battery (Lithium battery)
  • The unit may be used loosely as an In line option, or, it may be fitted permanently via the mounting holes.

It is recommended that a fuse/circuit breaker be fitted in line between the LCD-20 and both the input and the output batteries. This is to ensure protection along the entire wiring circuit.

      Questions and Answers:

      Q. Do I need to install an Isolator in the vehicle with the LCD-20?

Yes. Failure to install an isolator in a system when using the LCD-20, can result in the flattening of your vehicle's main cranking battery. The LCD-20 is not fitted with an isolator, so it will remain connected to the input battery until it has been physically disconnected. The use of an isolator will act to disconnect the LCD-20 and will protect the main battery.

       Q. You say I need an isolator, should I use a VSR or ignition activated isolator?

      Q. I have an older vehicle and a VSR isolator fitted already, can I use this isolator with this LCD-20?
Yes! Vehicle's dated prior to 2016-2017 are not usually prone to low voltage output. This means that a VSR will engage easily within these vehicles and you will certainly be able to use this model isolator in conjunction with the LCD-20
      Q. What is the LCD-20 rated to?
The LCD-20 is rated to 20 Amps output and a filtered 14.5 Volts
      Q. What input voltage do I need for the LCD-20 to work?
The LCD-20 is designed with an input voltage of 8-36Volts. This makes the unit suitable for both 12volt and 24volt vehicles.
      Q. Do I need an ignition wire for low voltage vehicle?
The LCD-20 is designed to engage at a voltage as little as 8 volts, so there is no need to install an ignition wire for low voltage vehicles!
      Q. Is the LCD-20 available in a larger capacity?
The LCD-20 is the largest size available, however, two  or three chargers may be linked in parallel to order to increase the capacity of 40-60Amps! Please contact our staff with regards to this link kit
      Q. Can I use the LCD-20 with standard Lead Acid deep cycle batteries?
Unfortunately no, it is not recommended. The LCD-20 is designed for lithium LiFePO4 batteries. The output voltage is 14.5 volts, which sometimes can cause harm to sealed Deep cycle batteries. Thumper does have a model available for standard lead acid batteries!
      Q. Do you offer this LCD-20 as a pack with an isolator?
Yes, simply choose your package on our website. The LCD-20 is available on it's own, with a few linking leads, or even with a full wiring loom.
      Q. Does the LCD-20 have a solar regulator?
No. The LCD-20 is purely a DC charger rated to 20 Amps (vehicle charging)
      Q. What is the warranty on the LCD-20?
2 years from date of purchase
