What is the difference between 12 Volt and 24 Volt? 

12 Volt power will offer a voltage output from the battery between 9 ~14.5 volts. A 12 volt battery system will run with the following voltages: 

A 24 Volt battery system involves series linking of batteries. Series linking refers to linking the positive of battery A to the negative of battery B. The two remaining terminals are now offering 24 volt power. 

Can you use 24 volt appliances on a 12 volt battery? 

Normally, No.

24 Volt appliances require higher voltages in order to run successfully. If the appliance are you wishing to run has a voltage input between 19 - 30 Volts, then this appliance must be ran on 24 volt and can not run from a 12 volt battery system. 

On the other hand, some appliances are classified as 'multi-voltage', which means that they have the ability to run on a number of voltages. For instance, if the input requirement of the appliance you are wishing to run reads between 9 - 33 volts, then this will allow you to run such appliances on EITHER 12 Volt or 24 Volt battery systems. 

What appliances can run on both 12 volt and 24 Volt? 

There are a number of appliances on the market that will run from both 12 volt and 24 volt. It is always important to check the input voltage of the appliance and ensure that it allows for a 9-33Volt input range if you are wishing to run an appliance on both 12v and 24 volt battery power.
