SmartShunt
The Smart Battery Shunt
The SmartShunt is an all in one battery monitor, only without a display. Your phone acts as the display. The SmartShunt connects via Bluetooth to the VictronConnect App on your phone (or tablet) and you can conveniently read out all monitored battery parameters, like state of charge, time to go, historical information and much more.
Alternatively the SmartShunt can be connected and be read by a GX device. Connection to the SmartShunt is made via a VE.Direct cable.
The SmartShunt is a good alternative for a BMV battery monitor, especially for systems where battery monitoring is needed but less wiring and clutter is wanted.
The SmartShunt is equipped with Bluetooth, a VE.Direct port and a connection that can be used for: monitoring a second battery, midpoint monitoring or a temperature sensor.
The SmartShunt is available in 500A. The 1000A and 2000A will follow later this year.

This is the second shunt I have brought. The first while a wonderful device that worked great (see previous review) turned out to not be waterproof! Well not proof against a huge flood of water that filled up the device. (I had mounted it to a side inside guard on the car, so the circuit was horizontal and it filled up. This one got sealed up with amalgamating tape and then put in a plastic bag. If I had had more space I would have put it in a plastic box. I don't expect another flood, but will be a bit better prepared. I now also note that a waterproof version is now available from Victron. see "Victron SmartShunt 500A/50mV IP65 Water Resistant Bluetooth Battery Shunt " maybe HO12V will soon stock this one also.

I held off on this review until i had completed the install in my car and had some time to review it in action.. so here goes.. I installed two rivnuts on the drivers side guard and bolted the smart shunt down, then because I was changing out my leadacid battery for a lithium (voltX) I had to add a battery post to the positive so I could use my existing positive connector. The neg (post) connector was removed and new short neg cable with eyes bolted direct the the battery neg terminal, then to the shunt then to chassis ground. Power was connected from both lithium house battery and starter battery so both could be monitored for voltage. Install is quite neat. but the smart shunt is hidden by the battery. Phone app install was easy, and worked. I got to set a few parameters to suit the lithium battery but it was all easy. When camping with the 12v fridge running and solar panel connected, I can now easily see how much power goes in and out and how much is left. Some people like a dedicated gauge, but the bluetooth app suites me fine as I am not constantly checking. Range for the app to connect is within 10m. I also purchased the Battery M8 High crank conversion terminal posts from this site, but only really needed the positive one to suite my existing wiring.

Own 2 off the normal wire ones and these smart shunts are so much easier to install and give you so much information as so easy using my apple phone can be in the front of the OKA and see what is happening to my accessory lithium batteries in the rear . As per good service and quick delivery into Melbourne by post
