What is an AGM Battery? 

The term AGM stands for Absorbed Glass Matt. This type of technology is completely sealed and maintenance free. As the name suggests, the battery is internally constructed with Glass Matt sponges that are positioned between the lead plates of the battery. The sponges absorb the acid so that no risks remains for the battery to leak, fuse, gas or vent.

How Heavy is an AGM? 

It is true that AGM batteries are heavy. In fact, the better quality the AGM Battery = the heavier the battery will be. This is due to the lead plates that are inside the battery. The thicker the lead plates inside the battery = the heavier loads that the battery can hold. 

The average weight of a 100 AH AGM Battery is approx 29kg, the weight of a 120 AH is approx 32kg. 

If the weight of an AGM battery is less than these suggested weights, it is likely that the battery is a lesser quality deep cycle and as a result can lead to a lower life expectancy. 

Can I install an AGM under the bed / seat of my Caravan?
