Q. Why would i need to install the isolator under the bonnet with this system when the BCDC1225D will act as an isolator anyway?
It is true that the BCDC1225D will act as an isolator itself. When operating as normal, the BCDC1225D will engage and disengage according to the voltage of the main start battery, which is ultimately determined by the alternator output. This DC charger will work fine as the isolator providing that the vehicle has a voltage output that is constantly > 13.3 Volts.
(Optional wiring loom available in package)
Components of vehicle wiring loom (TUR-L)
- 1 x Relay Mount (Fitted with Relay / Midi Fuse Holder / MIDI Fuse)
- 1 x 6mt length 6mm twin core automotive cable (optional 8mm or 13.5mm upgrade)
- 1 x Anderson rear box (optional to fit)
- 1 x Anderson to Anderson 1mt connecting cable
- 2 x Pk5 small zip-ties
- 3 x Fuse-Tap options (Mico Fuse / Micro2 Fuse / Mini Fuse)
- Assortment of lugs / cable joiners / screws
Instructions for Fitting:
- Mount the Anderson rear box in the rear of the vehicle, within 1 metre of where the Thumper will be located.
- Run the twin core automotive cable (6mm) under the carpet or kick panel from the engine bay to the location of the rear Anderson box. (If the cable has been upgraded to 8mm, then it is recommended to run the cable under the body of the vehicle and secure within split conduit).
- Using the yellow crimp joiners, connect the Anderson rear box to the twin core cable by crimping both the positive and negative cable into the yellow crimp joiners. Using electrical tape, tape the crimp joiners / cable join for added protection (optional).
- Fasten the Relay Mount under the vehicle bonnet as close to the main starter battery as possible (within 600mm) - see notes on the fitting the Relay Mount in the above diagram.
-
Using the lugs provided, connect the length of 6mm (or 8mm) cable to the following:
- The positive (RED) cable will connect to the remaining ring terminal on the Relay Mount (see image above)
- The negative (BLACK) cable will connect either directly to the negative terminal of the starter battery, or, to the chassis bolt (a chassis bolt may not be fitted to all vehicles) - see notes in image above for more information.
- Connect the positive cable from the Relay Mount (the RED cable with split conduit) directly to the positive terminal of the starter battery.
-
The remaining thin RED wire on the Relay Mount must connect to an ignition activated power source. An ignition activated source is a positive connection that is live ONLY with the vehicle engine running and holds NO power when the ignition is OFF.
- For vehicles fitted with rain sensing wipers; it is recommended to use one of the Fuse-Taps provided to replace the fuse and connect this ignition wire.
- For all other vehicles, an ignition activated source can be located either within the loom to the windscreen wiper motor, or by tapping into the back of a socket (such as a cigarette socket).
- Connect the Anderson 1mt connecting lead to the Anderson rear box and to the Thumper.
-
Final Step - Testing the charging system
- Start the vehicle engine and increase the vehicle's RPM to approx 1500-2000 for 3 - 5 seconds. At this stage, allow for your vehicle to idle whilst checking the Thumper voltage. The voltage should start to increase on the Thumper display. --> If the voltage increases at this point, then you have successfully installed the charging system.

NOTES FOR RELAY MOUNT:
- The aluminum bracket on the Relay Mount must be mounted to the vehicle’s body. Mounting to the body will provide an earth connection to the relay.
* If the relay mount is fastened to a plastic surface or to a fibreglass body, then an additional earth wire must be connected to the aluminum bracket via one of the mount holes provided.
The Relay Mount is equipped with two optional pre-drilled mount holes. Either hole may be used to fasten the Relay Mount; alternatively, the top foot may be removed, or straightened, to allow for mounting to the rear firewall or side guard of the vehicle.
NOTES FOR IGNITION WIRE:
The Relay Mount has been fitted with an ignition wire. This wire must be fitted to any positive connection that is ONLY live when the vehicle’s ignition is ON. The power feed must hold NO power when the
vehicle’s ignition is OFF.
For vehicles fitted with rain sensing wipers; it is recommended to use one of the Fuse-Taps provided to replace the fuse and connect this ignition wire.
For all other vehicles, the most common ignition source can be found within the windscreen wiper motor loom.

Bluetooth App - THUMPER BATTERIES
The Thumper App can be found in your APP store as a free download.
Note: Some features of the APP are only available with a passcode

Bluetooth App | Control Screen - Explained:
The Bluetooth app offers the ability to control the charge or discharge loads from the battery by remotely switching ON / OFF the power via the Bluetooth App.
To turn either your charge or discharge loads off, simply switch the blue toggle (blue = ON) to instead show a blacked out toggle.
CHARGE SWITCH - to remotely disconnect all charge loads from the battery. Turning this particular switch OFF will prevent the battery from taking a charge load from any charging source, including the DC battery charger.
DISCHARGE SWITCH - to remotely disconnect all discharge loads from the battery. Turning this particular switch OFF will prevent the battery from running any appliance as it disconnects all loads from the battery. This is the perfect option to use when storing the battery.

The Thumper is a Lithium LiFePO4 Prismatic battery.
Yes! The Thumper Lithium is designed to be continually charged and discharged fr the purposes of running all accessories, such as fridges, lighting, inverters and more.
Both the Thumper Lithium 100 AH has a continual discharge rate of 100Amps (1200watts) and the 120 AH has 120 Amp discharge rate as standard. The batteries also have a MAX peak discharge of 300 Amps for 1-3 seconds (surge capacity).
This means that if you are using only one battery, then the maximum Inverter size that would successfully run on the Thumper 100 AH would be a 1200watt / 120 AH would be 1440 watts.
Need a bigger BMS? We can upgrade our BMS boards to higher capacity, so you can run larger appliances from the one battery! See our drop down link for upgrade options on the BMS.
How many batteries do I need to run my Inverter?
150 watt Inverter ~ 1200 watt Inverter = 1 Battery with a 100 Amp BMS
1201 watt Inverter ~ 2400 watt Inverter = 1 Battery with 200 Amp BMS or 2 x Batteries with 100 Amp / 120 Amp BMS
2401 watt Inverter ~ 4800 watt Inverter = 2 x Batteries with 200 AMP BMS or 3 x Batteries with 120 Amp BMS
What would happen if I run over the discharge rating? The Thumper Lithium is protected internally with a BMS (Battery Management System), meaning that it will protect the battery against overcharge / low voltage and excessive discharge drain.
Example: If you connect a 2000 watt Inverter (166Amp total draw) to the Thumper Lithium battery, then the battery would allow you to run UP TO 1200watts (100Amps) from the Inverter. If the draw exceeded this 100 Amps, then the BMS inside the battery would disconnect and cease providing power to your system.
Once the load has been disconnected from the battery, the BMS will reconnect itself within a few seconds and the battery will be ready to use again.
Can I mount the Lithium battery on its side?Yes! The Lithium battery is completely sealed and is designed to allow you to mount on any side.
As with any Lithium battery, it is recommended (when possible) to use a lithium battery charger. Lithium Battery charger chargers charge the battery at a slightly higher voltage and run through compatible charging stages to suit the Lithium's chemistry. Charging your battery with a Lithium compatible charger will help to prolong the life of your Lithium battery by ensuring it is receiving a full rate of charge.
In stating the above, the Thumper Lithium range of batteries are designed to be able to charge from an AGM battery setting.
Can I use my portable solar panel on the Thumper Lithium Battery? The Thumper Lithium is designed to charge from any system that is compatible to charge from either a Lithium or AGM setting.
Providing your solar regulator is designed to suit Lithium or AGM chemistry, then it would be perfectly suitable to charge from your portable solar panel.
The Thumper Lithium Battery will not charge from an unregulated panel as the internal BMS will disconnect any input charge that exceeds 15 Volts.
What is the life expectancy of the Thumper Lithium battery? The Thumper Lithium is rated over cycles. A cycle is the process of charging and discharging the battery. The Thumper Lithium is rated to a minimum of 2000 cycles.
Yes! Both the Thumper 100 AH & 120 AH are designed to be wired in parallel and are non-limited. This means you can build your 12 volt system as large as you desire with use of these batteries!
Can I link a Thumper Lithium 100 AH to a 120 AH ?
No. As the BSM is different in both the 100 AH and the 120 AH, it means the two batteries are not designed to be linked to one another.
Can I wire the Thumper Lithium in Series?Wiring in series converts a 12 Volt battery into either a 24Volt / 36Volt or 48Volt system (depending on how it is wired)
The Thumper 100 AH is designed to run in series from 12-48V max 4 in series, no limit in parallel.
We now offer an upgrade option for a 200 Amp START BMS (only available by Phone inquiry 08 8391 3121)
What voltage is fully charged in a Lithium Battery?Approx 13.2 ~ 13.4 Volts is 100% charged in a Lithium battery.
The Thumper Lithium 100 AH now comes includes a in built BLUETOOTH monitoring device. Simply download the free Bluetooth app to accurately monitor the state of charge in a Lithium battery set up.
Using voltage to monitor the state of charge in a lithium battery is unfortunately not accurate.
As the voltage in a lithium battery remains higher throughout the cycle life of the battery, it means that Thumper Lithium will read in the 12's when it is nearing the end of it's capacity. When the remaining capacity of the battery has been exhausted, the battery's BMS will disconnect and the battery will shut down.
The short answer to this is Yes, and No.
A voltage meter will provide you an 'indication' on the state of charge on a lithium battery. However, the slightest change in the digital reading of voltage can mean over 50% of your battery's capacity.
The most accurate method to monitor a lithium battery is by the use of the free bluetooth app available in your App store.
Much the same as how a lead acid battery is configured, The Thumper lithium battery is constructed using a multiple of smaller cells linked internally.
