What appliances can I run on 12 volt? 

In the past there was not a lot of options for running appliances on 12 volt. Fast forward to today and you now have the option to have appliances such as 12 volt portable oven, 12 volt air fryers, Diesel heaters and even a low draw induction cooktops! 

Do I need to upgrade my cable if I want to run these appliances? 

Many 12 volt camping accessories will run from a basic cigarette lighter socket. If this is the case, then the cable gauge require is usually only between a 4mm and 6mm automotive cable gauge. 

If you are looking to run appliances such as 12 volt portable ovens or 12 volt air fryers, then we would recommend to use a heavier gauge 12 volt automotive cable, such as an 8B&S / 8mm cable. This will ensure you will have the power to run your appliances without any problems with voltage drop. 

How much power does a diesel heater draw on 12v? 

Surprisingly enough, the diesel heaters for your 12 volt camping caravan set up will not draw a lot of power! On start up the diesel heater can draw around 8 Amps for the first 2 - 3 minutes, after this point, the draw will average back to around 1 - 3 Amps per every hour of use, depending on what level you have it set to (high = 3 Amps / medium = 2 Amps, low = 1 Amp per hour). 

This is incredibly low considering you are generating heat! The low amp draw is not the only benefit of the diesel heater; the heat output is clean and very comfortable, making it the number one choice for heating in your 12 v caravan set up!
